At Tooty: The Social Fart Map ("App", "we", "us", or "our"), we take your privacy and the protection of your personal data seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use our App, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding your data.

By downloading or using our App, you accept the data processing activities described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

a) Information You Provide Directly

  • Account Information: Email address, username, and password when you register. If you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information such as name, email, and profile picture.
  • Profile Information: Optional display name and profile photo you add to your profile.
  • User Content: All content you create including "farts" (posts), their type, tags, descriptions, and comments.
  • Communication: Information you provide when contacting support or providing feedback.

b) Information Collected Automatically

  • Location Data: Precise GPS location when you create a "fart" to position it accurately on the map. We may also derive general information like city and country from this location.
  • Usage and Interaction Data: Your in-app activities including likes/dislikes, profile visits, friend requests, league activities, XP earned, level, rank, and achievements.
  • Log Data: IP address, device name, operating system version, app configuration, usage time and date for diagnostic purposes.
  • Device and Technical Information: Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens for push notifications, operating system type, device ID, and app language preferences.

c) Information from Third Parties

  • Payment Information: Subscription status from Google Play Store or Apple App Store (we do not receive or store payment card details).

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide and Improve Services: Create accounts, display posts on the map, enable social interactions, and enhance overall service quality.
  • Personalize Experience: Operate the rank, level, and achievement system for a tailored experience.
  • Communication: Send push notifications, system updates, and provide support services.
  • Security and Analysis: Apply usage limits to prevent spam and abuse, analyze app performance, and fix bugs.

We may use third-party companies and individuals to facilitate our services, provide the service on our behalf, or assist us in analyzing how our service is used. These third parties have access to your personal information only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We share information only in the following circumstances:

  • With Other Users: Your username, profile photo, posts, and comments are visible to other users. Post location visibility depends on your privacy setting (public, friends-only, or private).
  • With Service Providers: As described above, for service provision purposes only.
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or official request from authorized authorities.

5. Data Security

We strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data. All data communication is encrypted and database access is strictly controlled through Firebase Security Rules. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

User-initiated deletion (soft-delete): When you delete your own content (e.g., comments), it is hidden from other users immediately. A server-side copy may be retained for up to 90 days for security, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, and operational backup purposes. After this period, it is irreversibly deleted from active systems.

Legal hold and reports: If content is reported by a user, reasonably likely to be relevant to a dispute, or subject to a valid legal request, we may place it under legal hold. Content and related records under legal hold are not automatically deleted until the hold is lifted to comply with applicable laws and to preserve evidence.

Minimal metadata: We may retain minimal metadata (for example, event timestamps, user/account identifiers, and a cryptographic hash of the content) for a longer period where necessary to ensure platform security, prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, or exercise/defend legal claims, as permitted by law.

Lawful requests: We respond to valid legal process (e.g., court orders, law enforcement requests) as required by law and may notify affected users when legally permitted. Our data processing and disclosures are detailed in this Privacy Policy and are limited to what is necessary and proportionate.

Backups and logs: Deletion propagates to backups on a rolling basis. Certain security and operational logs may be retained for the periods required by applicable law and internal policies.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under data protection laws, you have the following rights:

  • Right of Access: Request access to your personal data we hold.
  • Right to Rectification: Request correction of incomplete or inaccurate personal data.
  • Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten"): Request deletion of your personal data under certain conditions.
  • Right to Restrict Processing: Request restriction of your personal data processing under certain conditions.
  • Right to Data Portability: Receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format.
  • Right to Object: Object to the processing of your personal data.

8. Children's Privacy

Our App is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and discover that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take necessary action. If we become aware of such a situation, we will immediately delete this information from our servers.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will notify you by publishing the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Changes become effective immediately upon publication.
